Sitting through one 3-D film after another is exhausting. Especially when we were too stupid to wear the right glasses during The Avengers and everything was blurry the entire fifteen hours (or however long that snoozeroo lasted).
Summer movies generally mean lots of things blowing up, plots that require limited mental capacity, and the absence of any prominent gay characters (unless you count that big nelly Hulk and his fashion-forward cut-offs).
Thankfully, there’s a cure for the Hollywood summertime blues.
Tomorrow night the festivities kick off at the 14th Annual Q Cinema, Fort Worth’s Gay & Lesbian International Film Festival. All films this year are at the historic Rose Marine Theater near the Fort Worth Stockyards. The line-up includes nearly 40 films, multiple filmmakers and stars, a world-premiere play and parties every night.
Films we can’t wait to see this year include the opening night film, Funkytown, and the closing night comedy, Gayby. In between, there are plenty of short films (including an entire series relating to gay marriage), feature-length gems, and groundbreaking documentaries, including the locally produced Raid of the Rainbow Lounge from the adorable and talented Robert Camina.
It’s a weekend of fantastic queer entertainment. And there won’t be a single drag queen in 3-D.
Except the fabulous one seated next to you.
