Lone Star State Of Awareness

That pink sequined fedora with flashing LED lights? Yeah, that’s our “serious hat” and we’re about to put it on.

Because in case you weren’t already aware, Texas has a rising rate of HIV among gay and bisexual men. So it’s important to be tested regularly and know your status.

But it’s equally important to understand HIV and AIDS and do your part to help silence the stigma, whether you’re positive or negative.

Greater Than AIDS, a national public information effort recently launched Speak Out Texas, a new campaign developed with Texas Department of State Health Services and Dallas County Health and Human Services.

A series of YouTube videos featuring men from Dallas, as well as the entire state, tell heartfelt stories about each person’s experience with the diagnosis and what has followed.

It’s a powerful campaign and one worth exploring further.

Until there’s a cure, early diagnosis is essential. And treating HIV+ people with love and respect, even more so.
