Brunch Of The Month: Patio-Perfect Patrizio

dal-10_16_15There’s nothing quite as nice as waking up to a sexy Italian on Sunday morning.

That’s exactly what happened to us this past weekend when we wrapped our mouths around several hunks of sausage, meatballs and pastries on the patio at the sleek new Patrizio.

Recently opened in the former Barter/PS/Private Social space next door to Del Frisco’s Grille on McKinney Avenue, one of our favorite Highland Park Village eateries is now in Uptown and there are far more hot college joggers to watch from this patio for sure. And much fewer plastic surgery “After” specimens.dal-10_16_15(bloody)Brunch started like normal, with a Bloody Mary. Except this is one of those trendy over-the-top Bloody Marys, which could easily be brunch all on its own. Topped with sausage, meatballs, prosciutto-wrapped asparagus, provolone-stuffed peppers, olives and whatever else they feel like popping onto the skewer in the kitchen, it’s a spicy concoction with a distinctive Italian flavor profile. Like a boozy, delicious marinara sauce.

Mimosas clock in at under $3, so there’s that, too.

As far as food, the presentations are rustic and gorgeous. Take the “Bacon & Eggs,” a platter of prosciutto-wrapped asparagus, oven-fired eggs, pecorino and hollandaise sauce. Pretty much a carb-friendly Benedict (pictured at top).dal-10_16_15(2)

The Frittata Fresca is an excellent vegetarian option with roasted asparagus, cherry tomato, artichoke hearts and goat cheese.dal-10_16_15(3)

And for those who crave carbs, Patrizio offers three varieties of oven-baked french toast. Choose from orange-and-mascarpone or banana-and-Nutella (above), a foodgasmic combination that’s been done before, just possibly not this wonderfully. There’s even a savory Florentine-style French toast studded with spinach.

Brunch at Patrizio is a great start to any day-drinking Sunday.

Or afternoon-nap Sunday.
