Naughty Or Nitro? (Why Not Both?)

Depending on which person you ask, naughty can mean a lot of different things around the holidays.

It could mean secretly unplugging your neighbors’ front lawn inflatables every night and then stalking NextDoor for their reaction.

Signing up your parents for text messages from politicians from their opposing party.

Or inviting the UPS guy into your house three times a week instead of two.

Naughty is truly in the eye of the beholder.

For the sake of this story, however, being bad is all about dining out at a fun new spot in Trinity Groves.

Nitro Burger is the latest concept from Trinity Groves wunderkind, Julian Rodarte, the chef and “son” at Beto & Son, as well as Lexy’s, the swanky culinary tribute to his wife.

The new restaurant looks like a retro diner with modern, futuristic artwork that together perfectly capture the combination of old-meets-new at this approachable burger joint.

Burgers are a budget-friendly $6-$10 and range from traditional to the ultimate in bourgeoisie burgers, the Highland Park BLT (Bacon, Lobster and Truffle). With a tempura-battered lobster tail atop a brisket-blend patty with bacon and truffle aioli on a potato bun, it’s decadent without going too far. And at $10, the value’s unbeatable. (It’s pictured bottom right in the group photo above.)

You can also indulge in fried delights such as lobster tots with chunks of grilled lobster, as well as fried pickles, fried green tomatoes, regular ol’ fries and pimento croquettes.

But the real indulgences—and the whole reason you’ll want to get naughty—can be found inside cups overflowing with sweet treats.

Nitro Burger gets its name in part from the beefy sandwiches on the menu, but also their signature Nitro Shakes. (Much like the award-winning liquid nitrogen margaritas Rodarte wows diners with at Beto & Son).

Crafted tableside, you can get your calorie, fat and alcohol overindulgences checked off in one fell swoop. Each concoction starts with sweet cream and a variety of mix-ins, and a hefty shot of booze. Options include Nitro Vanilla, The Elvis, Churro, Maple Bacon, Triple Chocolate and S’Mores. They’re large enough to share, so order one at a time then decide which shake you’ll split next.

Service is fast and friendly (quickly order through a QR code and the food comes out to your table within minutes), making it a great spot to pop in if you’re short on time.

Of course, you can linger longer with a second or third round of boozy shakes.

Or end things on a less sweet note with a simple Tito’s and Soda. (We won’t judge).
