Is Dallas Safe for LGBTQ Travelers? According to This New Ranking… Kinda?

Well, bless our queer little hearts—Dallas made the list! But before you pop the Champagne, let’s unpack what that actually means.

Every year, misterb&b—the gay Airbnb alternative that’s all about rainbow-friendly travel—releases its Queer Safety Index (QSI), ranking the top 30 U.S. cities where LGBTQ+ travelers are safest to visit. It’s based on bookings, policies, hate crime data, community support and a sprinkling of travel queen intuition.

And honey… Dallas came in at a not-so-sparkling #28.

We know. We had the same reaction.

Sure, we beat out Houston and Austin (sorry, y’all), but with a score of just 0.368 on misterb&b’s safety scale, we’ve got room for improvement—like, Mariah’s-range-level room.

Meanwhile, cities like Chicago, Seattle and San Francisco slayed the top spots. Even Albuquerque and Salt Lake City served better safety vibes. (We love an underdog story.)

But let’s not get too down. This index is actually a brilliant reminder that LGBTQ+ safety isn’t just about nightlife and drag brunches. It’s about policy, protection and community. Dallas may not top the list yet, but we’ve got some fierce local orgs, fabulous allies and a queer scene that won’t quit. And that’s something worth spotlighting.

Plus, we’ve got unbeatable Tex-Mex, rooftop margaritas and a gayborhood that throws shade and support in equal measure. And let’s not forget—we gave the world Alyssa Edwards, so clearly we’re doing something right.
