Where To Eat This Weekend: Cafe Momentum

My, how time flies when you’re doing good things for the community.

It’s hard to believe that Cafe Momentum debuted in downtown Dallas a decade ago. In the time since, the concept has spread to Atlanta, Pittsburgh and Denver.

If you’ve still not been, now’s the time. It’s easily one of our favorite dining experiences in the Dallas. From the impeccably prepared, fine-dining quality food in a casual setting to the young staff members working to make a second chance count, Cafe Momentum nourishes the soul.

We returned to Cafe Momentum a couple of weeks ago after a way-too-long hiatus, and we were so happy to revisit this very special restaurant.

The nonprofit employs mostly teens and young adults who were involved with the justice system and looking for marketable skills in the restaurant industry. They work in a variety of positions, from back of the house to front, and it’s always a joy to see how they open up as the meal progresses.

Our server was fun, just the right amount of sassy and she really warmed up to us from the time we sat down through dessert.

The menu, from chef de cuisine Aaron Collins (pictured above) packs in comfort food classics. We always order the house-made bread basket to start and smoked fried chicken for an entree, then fill in the blanks with other dishes.

Menu items change seasonally, which adds incentive for return visits.

Current must-haves include fried green tomatoes,

The kitchen team prepares everything exquisitely, from temperature and seasoning to presentation, and for this type of high-quality fare, the prices can’t be beat.

Many exciting things are in motion for Cafe Momentum’s future in Dallas, so whether you’re dining there for the first time or making one of many repeat visits, every reservation you make truly helps change the world.

One deserving person at a time.
