How’s Your Dry January Going?

We started Dry January on Monday, January 5. So, now that we’ve hit Day 10, we’re getting used to sleeping well and making better decisions.

You know, picking up strangers at bars, but remembering that we brought them home!

Most nights before dinner, we pull a non-alcoholic beer out of the fridge or mix up a zero-proof cocktail. But pre-packaged mocktail options aren’t always great, so we typically craft our own from club soda and various syrups, bitters and garnishes.

While at a party in New Orleans, we met someone at Mockly, a non-alcoholic libations company based in NOLA where they know a considerable deal about great cocktails. She sent us a care package to try and we purposely saved them until January when we knew we’d be sober for a bit.

Mockly currently comes in four flavors: Blueberry Floral Spritz, Herbal Tangerine Elixir, Citron Café Noir and Pomegranate Ginger Tonic. Mixologists crafted each flavor with real fruit juice and natural flavors, plus no artificial sweeteners.

This past weekend, we hosted a small dinner party with a group of friends who are either permanently sober or also participating in Dry January. So, this was the perfect time to break out Mockly and get some feedback on the flavors.

The consensus was that the Mockly beverages are delicious, but quite sweet. They have a considerable amount of added cane sugar and that makes them a lot sweeter than we typically like our cocktails. One of our guests liked them fine as-is, but she prefers sweet drinks.

For the rest of us, we mixed one part Mockly with three parts club soda, added a dash of bitters and they were absolutely divine. Not only does this increase the number of cocktails per can than their single-serving design, it makes each drink wildly affordable compared to mocktails at Dallas bars.

Each Mockly 12-pack costs $49.99 and a 16-pack Big Easy Variety Pack costs $66.99. This breaks down to about $4 per can, or $1 per cocktail if you mix them with club soda like we did.

Mockly offers yet another reason to love Louisiana and another way to keep Dry January from ever being boring.

Plus, the Mockly beverages make great mixers with your favorite spirits.

You know, if you prefer something higher proof than ZERO.
