Even mainstream John Waters beats 95% of “edgy” movies.
As much as we love the filth of Pink Flamingos, Multiple Maniacs and Desperate Living, we adore Hairspray in all its incarnations.
From the 1988 original starring Ricki Lake and Divine to the 2002 Broadway musical version of the movie to the 2007 movie version of the Broadway musical, they each hold a special place in our tiny queer hearts.
Starting tomorrow night (or tonight if you want to catch a preview performance), the incredibly talented and hilarious Nina West graces the stage at Casa Mañana in Fort Worth, returning to the role of Edna Turnblad.
She slayed in the role on the national tour several years ago, so expect greatness per usual.
We writing this assuming everyone reading knows the plot, but if you don’t, who cares! Show up. Support queer art and have one helluva fun night.
As long as you’re not seated behind a hair hopper.
