Travel Tuesday: Come Thirsty & Hungry For This Road Trip To Cowtown

It’s crazy that a gallon of gas has now eclipsed the price of a bottle of our favorite cheap wine in college.

Fortunately, our wine appreciation has dramatically improved. So, we’re going to treat our discerning palates to some delightful wines this weekend at an out-of-town food event that won’t empty the gas tank.

This week, the Fort Worth Food & Wine Festival returns with tickets still available to three days of events: The Main Event on Friday, Fork + Fire on Saturday and The Big Brunch on Sunday.

Tickets start at $95 and you can mix and match events you wish to attend. (We recommend a full weekend getaway so you can attend them all.)

We stayed at several Fort Worth hotels last year, so we have a few recommendations for where to stay, too, with a variety of options based on your budget and vibe.

The Crescent Hotel, Fort Worth

Located in the heart of Fort Worth’s vast cultural district, The Crescent Hotel has been one of our favorite places to stay ever since it debuted. The rooms are gorgeous, the Canyon Ranch Wellness Club + Spa are incredibly well appointed (we’ve been known to spend hours at each), and Emilia’s has some of the best cuisine in the entire city. We’ve seen big-name Hollywood celebrities there before, so you know it meets people with the highest standards. thecrescenthotelfortworth.com

The Sinclair, Autograph Collection

The gorgeous art deco tower in downtown Fort Worth (circa 1929) offers classic style with modern flair in its hotel transformation. Digital showers with mood lighting and precise temperature control in the super-comfy rooms are a fun touch and the 17th floor rooftop bar offers some of the best views of the city at night. In the opposite direction, the basement Wicked Butcher will satisfy your wildest steak and seafood cravings with impeccable service and some pretty damn great martinis. marriott.com

Hotel Otto

Whether you’re traveling solo or wish to enjoy a romantic weekend, it doesn’t get much more intimate than the tiny-but-luxe shipping container bungalows at Hotel Otto. Located near trails along the Trinity River and featuring a great pool scene, spending a little time in the fresh air should definitely be on the agenda. Chef Tim Love’s delightful Italian restaurant, Gemelle, serves wonderful breakfast, lunch and dinner dishes, plus the hotel’s partnership with Aperol means a spritz is always close at hand. hotelottoftw.com

The Worthington Renaissance Fort Worth Hotel

Since 1981, The Worthington Renaissance has been a prominent feature of Fort Worth’s downtown skyline. The spacious rooms offer terrific views and really cozy beds. Chef Richard Sandoval’s Toro Toro should certainly make an appearance on your weekend agenda. The (hardly) Mini Tomahawk Ribeye is divine. The property also features an indoor pool for all-year, all-weather enjoyment, plus it’s right at Sundance Square where numerous restaurants, bars and other diversions await. marriott.com
