As young gay boys, how confusing was it to watch episodes of Wonder Woman starring Lynda Carter? We at once wanted to be her, but were completely mesmerized by those glorious Amazon ta-tas poking out of her patriotic bustier.
It’s contradictions like this that perhaps gave birth to the idea of bisexuality, but that’s a story for another day. The bottom line, those mams were like crack for our young, innocent minds.
But now The Q Guide to Wonder Woman is out with so much more to learn about the iconic character and how Ms. Carter left a permanent mark on pop culture, not to mention a permanent burn mark on the rug from spinning around in circles every week.
Written by fanboy Mike Pingel, the book is a must-have for devotees of Diana Prince and her Nazi-fighting alter ego. The guide is filled with detailed accounts of each episode, interviews with celebrities who worked on the show, insider scoop on collectible merchandise, and plenty of great trivia.
Who knew that one of Wonder Woman’s first TV appearances was on the animated Brady Bunch series, The Brady Kids, where the kids travel back in time and complete in the Olympics and win? Or that there were five episodes where Steve Trevor (played by Lyle Waggoner) got tied up with rope? Kinky!
We’re still awaiting the day when Wonder Woman finally gets her big-screen due, but until then this book is a great way to reminisce about the series that helped turn many a boy into big, flaming queens.
