The Pride Month celebrations continue, this time with popcorn!
June’s CinéWilde presentation at the Texas Theatre will be Gus Van Sant’s 2008 movie, Milk, starring Sean Penn as LGBT rights activist Harvey Milk, alongside Josh Brolin, Diego Luna, Victor Garber, James Franco and Dennis O’Hare.
The major release won two Academy Awards, one for Best Actor (Penn) and the other for Best Original Screenplay (Dustin Lance Black).
It’s a powerful feature film and one that’s just as impactful on repeat viewings, but perhaps even more important as a bit of education for newer generations of LGBTQ people. Because without the courageous efforts of Harvey Milk, who knows where our community would be right now.
Definitely not in a better place.
