The new queer show you need on your binge list has arrived.
Earlier this month, LGBTQ+ streamer Revry debuted its first full-length original scripted series.
Six-time Emmy nominee Kit Williamson, the brains behind EastSiders and all-around great guy (we’ve traveled with him before), created Unconventional. It now has enough episodes banked that you can start your binge properly.
The comedy follows Noah (Williamson) and his crazy (and crazy funny) journey through marriage, higher education and donating sperm to his sister’s wife.
The all-star cast includes James Bland (Giants), Aubrey Shea (Nashville) and Briana Venskus (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.). The nine-episode series also boasts guest-starring roles Kathy Griffin, Beau Bridges, Willam and Jenna Ushkowitz, each immediately recognizable to queer fans. At least we hope!
Stream Unconventional free on Samsung TV Plus, The Roku Channel, Vizio WatchFree+, Peacock, and through the Revry mobile app.
We truly enjoyed the episodes we’ve seen so far, but we are still scratching our heads as to why curse words and nudity are censored on the Revry app. (Assuming that’s the case on all platforms.) The bleeps and pixelation get a little annoying, but we’d rather see a sanitized version of this show than not at all.
You’ll have to watch and let us know what you think.
