Travel Tuesday: Swing Out, Sister!

As fun and refreshing as it is to hit the beach during the summer, sometimes fresh mountain air is even better.

Last September, we visited Glenwood Springs, Colorado for the first time and fell in love with the people, the food and, of course, the hot springs. Our only regret was not going earlier in the summer.

As we approach June this year, however, Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park keeps popping back into our memories as a quintessential summertime destination.

Fairy Cave

The excitement starts the moment you park your car and ride the scenic gondola to reach America’s only mountaintop theme park.

True to its name, you can explore Colorado’s largest show cave during your visit. options to upgrade to a black light tour and even the far more adventurous Wild Cave Tour where you can use your knee pads for a whole new kind of thrill as you crawl through tight spaces and marvel at areas few people ever get to see.

Defiance

For more adrenaline-pumping action, the high-speed rides will test your limits as you face your fears on North America’s highest roller coaster, the Cliffhanger. Or get your heart racing the entire time as you plummet downward during an exhilarating102.3-degree freefall of Defiance. There’s also a Giant Canyon Swing (pictured at top of story) and the Glenwood Cavern Flyer that both swing you out over the canyon below.

Canyon Flyer

There’s something extra special and exciting about riding a coaster or other ride in such beautiful surroundings along with the extra dash of mild terror as you see your feet dangling above the deep, deep canyon.

Even the Alpine Coaster at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park feels a lot scarier than most other ones we’ve ridden and we’d do it again.

Read all about all of our Glenwood Springs experiences right here, but make sure to put some rollercoaster time at the top of your list.

You can thank us while you’re upside-down screaming.
