Break Out The Adjustable Pants

It’s hard to believe that when we were young, eating was pure torture. We hated everything, refused to eat, and as a result, successfully maintained a 28-inch waist well into our college years. Then we learned that not all meals come from a can, the freezer or that rare gourmet experience – the church potluck dinner. From that point on, our food knowledge has increased in exact proportion to our waistline.

If eating were a sport, and to us it is, then Savor Dallas would be its World Series. This is the big-time food and drink event for the city. Amateurs, beware. If attending any Savor Dallas event, especially the International Grand Tasting, we advise three things to make the experience even better.

Dress To Impress. But make sure your outfit is comfortable (and maybe even expandable). Sure, everything comes in small tasting portions, but multiply that by several dozen and it’s easy to get full quickly.
Pace Yourself. There’s a lot to eat and drink here. It’s a rookie mistake to go back multiple times to the first thing you taste. Sure, you may like it a lot, but there is so much to enjoy that you owe it to yourself to try as many things as possible.
Get A Room. With more than 60 restaurants and 400-plus wines and spirits to sample, by the time Saturday night comes to a close, you’re going to be so full you can hardly walk, so drunk you can hardly stand or a YouTube-worthy combination of the two. We recommend booking a room at the Sheraton Dallas so the only thing you have to navigate is an elevator, the occasional set of stairs and that long journey from the door to the bed.

So grab some Tums, cancel all your plans and Savor Dallas in a whole new way. Look for us while you’re there. We’ll be the one wearing a bib and carrying one of those comically long forks for sneaking bites off other people’s plates. That’s us, keepin’ things classy since 2007.
