Bridge To Somewhere

If you build a fancy bridge, does that mean the trolls that live beneath it are high-class, too? This is the type of question that keeps us awake at night.

That, and “Why does Ryan Reynolds keep getting restraining orders against us?”

Well, unless you’ve been living under a rock (or a less-significant bridge), you should be well aware of the new Santiago Calatrava-designed bridge that’s popped up near downtown.

What you may not know is that this weekend is the grand unveiling of the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge and it’s going to be packed with opportunities to walk the bridge before it becomes permanently closed to pedestrians. Tomorrow night’s Lyle Lovett concert and celebration is already sold out, but you can still squat nearby (or go grab drinks at Five-Sixty) and catch the fireworks after the show ends.

Then all day Saturday, there’s everything from a 5K/10K to a free street festival with food vendors, live music and costumed performers. (We’re wearing our hot-pink leather chaps and riding a unicycle, so keep an eye out.) Saturday night also ends with spectacular fireworks.

With high temperatures in the 60s and 70s, it’s going to be spectacular weather for welcoming an architectural wonder to Dallas.

It also increases the chances that the fancy trolls will be in Speedos. (Fingers crossed.)
