Tour de Courses

When was the last time you walked any significant distance — that didn’t involve a treadmill and back-to-back episodes of My Big Fat American Gypsy Wedding?

And while we’re asking questions to people from whom we’ll never hear their responses, when’s the last time you ate food at four different restaurants within two-and-a-half hours? (And no, the Parade of Food Courts doesn’t count.)

Starting this week, Dallas gets its first walking food tour of Uptown courtesy of Food Tours of America. These small group tours (16 people max) take you all over the neighborhood, stopping along the way for food and cocktails between tidbits about the Uptown district’s history.

One minute you’re eating a hot dog wrapped in bacon topped with mac-and-cheese, the next you’re learning how many Dallas mayors are buried in a local cemetery.

The best part of this tour is that it’s as fun for locals as it is out-of-town tricks visitors. We took a preview tour and learned a lot of interesting facts that we never knew about this great city we call home.

Each tour takes you to several area restaurants for samples of their signature dishes and beverages, along with a ride on the McKinney Avenue trolley, and plenty of walking.

The inaugural weekend tours are already sold out, so book soon if you want to secure a spot in the next few weeks. Plus, we’ve got a discount code for you to save a few bucks off the already great price.

So grab your cutest tennis shoes and prepare to eat your way through Uptown while walking off the calories at the same time.

Much easier than eating pizza on the treadmill.
