Be grateful that we don’t get paid by the word.
Because when we left brunch at 303 Bar & Grill in the Bishop Arts District, we jotted down exactly 303 reasons why we loved this place. After all, brunch is our favorite Sunday ritual this side of stealing the coupons from the newspapers on all our neighbors’ lawns.
Instead, we’ve narrowed down our reasons for adoration to a more reader-friendly three.
1. Stellar Bloody Marys.
Brunch isn’t brunch without a savory, strong, veggie-filled libation, and 303 Bar & Grill’s small-but-powerful version is a hit. Of course, this place has a pretty well-rounded cocktail program, so you may want to start with a Bloody and venture next to a Caribbean Summer made with rum and fresh strawberries.
2. Inventive Cuisine.
What else can we say about a place that serves pulled pork stuffed pancakes with Jack Daniels maple syrup? Other than, “Yes, please. We’ll take thirds.” Additional highlights of the menu include a sausage-spiked take on shrimp and grits, as well as a perfectly cooked frittata with salmon, asparagus, a Yukon Gold potato cake and hollandaise sauce (above). Sharing plates here should be mandatory.
3. Cozy Patio.
So far, Dallas has had pretty patio-friendly weather, but the shaded wrap-around at 303 Bar & Grill promises to be a cool place to dine and drink on even the most sweltering weekend days. Plus, it plays home to a wonderfully diverse crowd, from gay daddies with their babies to hot frat guys and horn-rimmed hipsters. It’s Oak Cliff, after all, and there’s a little bit of everything for everyone.
