Bloody Mary bars are starting to scare us.
Last time we partook of one, the man who left the restroom before us (without washing his hands) immediately went over and started fingering the celery.
Game over.
We won’t tell you where that happened, but rest assured, you’ll never see that establishment in the fine digital pages of Gay List Daily.
So when we hit the new brunch at Kenny’s Wood Fired Grill only to be presented with a pencil, a piece of paper filled with Bloody Mary ingredients and the sudden giddiness of endless possibilities, we were ecstatic.
Start with your choice of top-shelf vodkas. Select your favorite mix (Zing Zang). Decide what kind of rim job you’d like (celery salt’s always nice). Then go crazy. Anchovies, bacon and beef jerky for protein. Avocado, cucumber, fresh jalapeño or pickled okra for veggies.
And that doesn’t even begin to cover the choices the bartender can utilize.
As for brunch food, the choices are few. And that’s a very welcome thing because if it makes the short list, it has to be great.
Customize your own Benedict with ham, smoked salmon, steak or crab cake. (Go for one of the last two.)
Chicken and waffles wow with an expertly prepared piece of boneless chicken fried chicken. Served with bacon and a fluffy waffle, it may not be soul-food authentic, but it’s damn good nonetheless.
Our final recommendation is a dish worth sharing with your entire table (or soon-to-be new friends seated nearby). It’s that good, and that decadent. The fried egg burger perfectly marries breakfast and lunch.
Bacon? Check. Egg? Check. Bernaise? You betcha. It even comes with the side item of your choice. Truffled mac-and-smoked-gouda should do the trick.
Then again, we’ve never met a trick we wouldn’t do.
