Brunch Of The Month: Patio Perfect

Sunday brunch in the winter often makes us sad. Because brunch is best enjoyed on a patio and when it’s cold and dreary, somehow our endless Mimosas and Bloody Marys don’t taste as good under a roof.

So we’re thrilled that the weather’s getting nice and the sun is expected to shine all weekend. But that’s not the only reason we selected The Gin Mill for our Brunch of the Month. Sure, it has one of our favorite patios in town, but it’s the crazy-good food that puts a smile on our face. And delicious cocktails that put a stagger in our step.

Start with a Bloody Mary or Mimosa for just $5 apiece. (Trust us when we tell you that you’ll want more than three Mimosas.)

Then comes the hard part: Deciding which exciting way you want your eggs.

The Eggs Florentine is loaded with sautéed spinach, mushrooms, Gruyère cheese, hollandaise and an over-easy egg. Served with a potato pancake, it’s a truly hearty meal. Those same potato pancakes take on a starring role when paired with smoked salmon and fresh herbed cream in another dish.

The breakfast flatbread comes on a house-made crust with crispy pecan-smoked bacon, baby spinach, melty Gruyère and three sunny-side-up eggs. Pizza for breakfast is just plain genius.

But it’s the Hangover Sandwich that might be the best justification ever for getting smashed on a Saturday night. Featuring a generous portion of Jimmy’s breakfast sausage and fried eggs, the real remedy lies in the two slices of custard-soaked brioche French toast that hold it all together.

We just need to convince them to offer it on their evening menu. Because after a day of patio drinking, we’ll need another Hangover Sandwich.

Ah yes, the circle of life.
