Raised Standards On Lower Greenville

Believe it or not, there are bigger flames in Dallas than us.

As in actual fire-fire.

Over the years, some of our favorite restaurants have fallen victim to devastating blazes only to rise from the ashes ready to make a new start.

Last month, we talked up Dallas Chop House, which reopened after a crippling fire. Now, Greenville Bar & Grill, which burned to the ground back in 2010, re-opened in its original location under new ownership late last year.

And all is right with the world again.

In addition to the expected variety of beers on tap (including several craft labels) and an expansive variety of liquors, the most notable part of the re-launch is the food menu, created by executive chef Richard Sipovic.

This is not your typical pub grub.

Sure, there are the expected wings and burgers, but what we weren’t counting on was a fantastic shrimp with house sausage and green chile cheddar grits (left).

The rabbit pot pie (sometimes available with chicken) also hits the spot for these cold, cold nights with a flaky crust that will melt in your mouth.

For those looking to get most of their calories from booze, the charred romaine salad is a nice, healthy take on the traditional Caesar, with the smokiness in the lettuce adding a great bit of flavor depth.

Another reason to eat salad here? The piped-to-order funnel cake with bourbon sauce. It’s an indulgent homage to the State Fair.

Without having to avoid the chants of carnies to enjoy one.
