Everything we know about classical music, the intelligence of coyotes and the art of dressing in drag, we learned from Looney Tunes.

So it’s with great excitement that we announce a museum exhibit that we can understand without a docent explaining the symbolism of the dead baby in the corner being carried away by a black crow with gladiolas in its beak.

This is entertainment as art, but just because “What’s Up, Doc? The Animation Art of Chuck Jones” features 23 cartoons doesn’t make the exhibit any less worthy of adorning the walls of a fine institution.

In fact, the exhibit is on loan from the Smithsonian itself.

Animated films in the exhibit include classics like What’s Opera, Doc? and One Froggy Evening, in addition to Jones’ experimental The Dot and the Line: A Romance in Lower Mathematics, which won an Academy Award.

Get a glimpse into the mind of this creative genius with 136 of his sketches, storyboards and other pieces of behind-the-scenes work that are all part of the initial idea-to-Saturday-morning-TV process.

Starting tomorrow, it’s time to keep up with the Jones.
