The 701 Club: Lions, Lynn & A Loser

HelenHoly-08_04_15The news of the week is as diverse as a Pentecostal church casserole. Join me in prayer as I offer my perspective on some important stories.

Lions: The interweb has been abuzz over the killing of Cecil the Lion in Zimbabwe. A wealthy dentist from Minnesota paid for the opportunity to shoot the majestic beast on a hunting expedition. While I certainly don’t understand the sport of hunting, I am stricken with the indignation and outcry from scores of people about this killing. Brothers and Sisters, there are far more heinous things happening to homosecular HUMANS in Zimbabwe and Uganda, yet the indignation and outcry over those injustices is deafeningly silent. I pray that we all get some perspective from this story and learn compassion. The Bible tells us that in the end times, the lion will lie down with the lamb. Until that happens, let us pray that in THESE times, none of our fellows are killed just for who THEY lie down with. Alleluia!

Lynn Anderson: Let us mourn the loss of a great talent. Country singer, Lynn Anderson, has passed on to her reward. While I never had the opportunity to serve in ministry with Sister Anderson, I hold her responsible for the fact that I have never been able to utter the words “I beg your pardon” without singing them. May she find a heavenly rose garden in spite of the fact that she became famous for never promising one to anyone else. Praise!

Loser: Here in the home state of my ministry, Texas Attorney General, Ken Paxton, has officially been indicted on charges fraud and investment crimes. Having run as a “fine Christian man” and having derided the moral failings of America, this indictment is embarrassing to say the least. Brother Paxton has pleaded not guilty and is requesting a jury trial. I am praying that the Lord will lead me to serve on that jury. I’ll wage my faith against his in any courtroom. Not that I have an opinion, but I believe Brother Paxton to be driving a fast car to hell, and I will gladly provide the Shell card to fill his tank for the trip. Rejoice!
