Here’s a history lesson for all you young’uns.
Way back in 2000, LGBT movies weren’t nearly as commonplace as they are today. So it was a big deal when a gay-themed movie made it to theaters.
And an even bigger deal when it was a great movie.
BIG EDEN is one of those that was fantastic then and still holds up today. In celebration of its 15th anniversary, there’s a new version out today both on-demand and on Blu-Ray. (See end of story for your chance to win your own copy!).
If you haven’t seen it, here’s the skinny.
Big Eden is a little cowboy town in Montana and childhood home of New York Artist Henry Hart (Arye Gross). When he returns to the town to care for the ailing grandfather who raised him, feelings from his past come flooding back. Like his infatuation with Dean Stewart (Tim DeKay), his high school best friend and the object of unrequited love. If that’s not complicated enough, Pike Dexter (Eric Schweig), the Native American owner of the general store, starts falling for Henry almost as soon as he returns to town.
The collector’s edition Blu-ray includes a new bonus feature, ”Remembering Big Eden,” which includes intimate interviews with the film’s cast and crew reflecting on the legacy and impact of the production.
Big Eden is as heartwarming as it is funny, a gay rom com before that was really a thing and one that proves support and encouragement can come from the most unlikely sources. It’s pretty much impossible to reach the end credits without a smile on your face.
A Montana-sized one at that.
