Pack your bags and get ready for adventure!
December’s Brunch of the Month at Sugarbacon Proper Kitchen is going to take you out of your bubble, but it’s well worth the drive to McKinney.
Now before you balk, hear us out.
We don’t like venturing beyond the 635 loop, let alone driving on a George Bush only to cross under another George Bush farther north before turning onto something called the “Sam Rayburn Tollway.” Might as well be Narnia.
But once you find yourself on the heated patio at Sugarbacon, you won’t have a care in the world other than whether to start with a Bloody Mary or a mimosa. We suggest both. You’re on vacation, after all.
Then, let us guide you through the entrees.
From the everyday lunch menu, you can’t go wrong with the short rib hash (pictured above) with fried egg and caramelized onion atop some of the most addictive crispy potatoes we’ve ever eaten.
The pulled pork Benedict (pictured above) is another winner thanks to sweet and tangy pork on fluffy buttermilk biscuits with chipotle hollandaise. And more of those damn good potatoes.
Or go old-school with the Proper Brunch, a hearty platter of scrambled eggs, hickory smoked bacon, biscuits and ancho-sage sausage gravy.
For brunch dessert (yes, that’s a thing) share a plate of French toast with whipped cream, orange anglaise and crunchy walnuts in real maple syrup.
When you’re done, it’s just a short walk over to the Grand Hotel on the town square for an overnight stay.
Don’t forget to send a postcard.
