It seems that all our favorite pills are little and blue. And they make bedtime so much better for our boyfriend.
But enough about our extra-strength Gas-X chewables.
We’re talking about PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis), the breakthrough HIV prevention protocol that includes a daily prescription of the antiretroviral medication, Truvada.
Study results have shown that daily use of Truvada can reduce the risk of HIV contraction through sexual intercourse by more than 90 percent. Add in condom use and additional preventative steps and the risk drops even more.
Tomorrow, Resource Center launches a PrEP Care Program to provide increased access in the Dallas LGBT community with a clinic every Tuesday and Thursday from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Nelson-Tebedo Clinic.
Led by retired physician Dr. Terry Watson, the clinic helps patients learn more about the protocol, as well as how much their insurance will pay toward the Truvada prescription. An insurance coordinator will also help the uninsured find financial assistance and co-pay opportunities directly from Truvada’s manufacturer, Gilead.
If you’re gay or bi and sexually active, PrEP could be right for you, so call to schedule an appointment today.
And if you have an erection lasting more than four hours, call us. We have a hot tub.
