Designer, Devotion & DeVos

Add these concerns to your prayer list for the week.

Designer. Another famous arbiter of wealth and privilege has passed on. French fashion designer, Hubert de Givenchy (Herbert D. Guhvinchee to the common people) went to the fabric store in the sky at the age of 91 this past weekend. Personally, I never adorn myself with designer attire, but his biggest claim to fame was the “little black dress” made famous by Sister Audrey Hepburn. Little black dress. Reflect on that. He made a career out of something so basic. Quite frankly, he showed much more flash with the green and orange Givenchy Lincoln Mark V that our church music director, Brother Ben Downenblowmy, drove back and forth to his all-male prayer groups near downtown. A car which Brother Ben fervently insisted was emerald and pumpkin. Whatever.

Devotion. Let no kindness go unnoticed, Brothers and Sisters. Give good service at a five-star restaurant and you MIGHT get an extra Alexander Hamilton in your tip. However, go the extra mile at a Waffle House and receive college tuition. Sister Evoni Williams, an 18-year old waitress in a Texas outpost of this famed greasy spoon, found herself on the receiving end of a $16,000 scholarship. All because she took the time to cut up an elderly man’s meat. There are so many directions I could go right now with this story, but let’s just leave it here. In the meantime, I’m heading to Denny’s to see if I can help some poor soul with his sausage before Sister Evoni has time to tithe $1,600 to her church. Praise!

DeVos. In his infinite wisdom and Christian faith, President Trump appointed Sister Betsy DeVos as Education Secretary last year. What a fine Christian woman. Her faith in Christ and all things holy completely overshadowed her lack of knowledge of the educational system. Christ triumphant! Therefore, her inability to answer pointed questions from liberal journalist, Lesley Stahl, about the state of schools today is no surprise. Can’t we just rejoice in her support of Christian education and faith-based creationism and pay no attention to her general ignorance? After all, an informed public can be dangerous. Hallelujah!
