Brunch Of The Week: ¡Brunch!

If we could have one genre of breakfast food for the rest of our existence, it would be in the Mexican milieu. Or Tex-Mex more specifically.

Because really, doesn’t salsa make every egg dish better?

So when we find a great spot for true Tex-Mex cooking, we get downright giddy. El Vecino has been a favorite of ours for lunch and dinner ever since they opened their original East Dallas location, but brunch has given us new life. And now with their Travis Walk location, we have new options.

The brunch menu features plenty of usual supsects: migas, chilaquiles, fajitas and eggs (pictured), and egg tacos among them. But there’s a creative streak evident, too. Huevos rancheros, for instance, come in individual fried tortilla cups topped with red or green sauce.

Our award for the most unique, however, has to go to the omelete de enchilada. Here, they take a Tex-Mex standard, the enchilada (cheese, chicken or beef) and wrap a three-egg omelette around it before slathering in the sauce of your choice (queso, chile con carne, tomatillo). It’s a successful marriage of breakfast and lunch, making it the perfect brunch dish for those who can’t decide which way to lean.

A quartet of egg dishes can be snagged all day, every day for those who don’t like a clock or calendar dictating when they get their brunch on.

Better still, house margaritas, swirls, Bloody Marys, and mimosas clock in at a mere five bucks apiece.

Because the only thing we love more than Tex-Mex for breakfast is a brunch that won’t break the bank. At El Vecino, we get both.
