Hair-hop Your Way To The Texas Theatre

After a Broadway musical and a movie based on that Broadway musical, it can be easy for casual John Waters fans to forget about the original 1988 Hairspray.

But it remains one of Waters’ best “mainstream” films and one we love revisiting.

Even the Library of Congress took note last year and inducted the movie starring Ricki Lake and Divine into the National Film Registry.

Jump to the 3:15 mark in the video below to see Lake discussing the movie and its inclusion in the registry.

This weekend, you can see Hairspray again on the big screen as the Texas Theatre presents the film along with a show by Labretta Suede & The Motel 6!  After the movie, go behind the screen for a dance party with the Go-Go Rillas.

It’s the best way to see a classic film.
