Texas Is Scary. These Movies Prove It.

Even though we love Dallas and being a Texan, that moronic monster in the governor’s mansion and his legion of losers makes us afraid sometimes. Very afraid.

But in the spirit of Halloween, we’re going to skip over politics and focus on some scary, campy, or otherwise just plain weird movies that have been made in the Lone Star State over the years.

This year, the first-ever It Came From Texas Film Festival makes its debut with 11 movies filmed right here in good ol’ Texas.

Of course, that has to include the 49-year-old The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

But the film fest also features Zontar: The Thing From Venus, Don’t Look in the Basement (and its sequel), and a special Mocky Horror Picture Show live skewering of The Giant Gila Monster.

Tickets are $10-$25 per screening (including some double-features) or you can go all in with a two-day, all-access pass for only $60. Student shorts featuring the works of Garland High School students will be peppered in along with the full-length features.

So maybe by the next edition of It Came From Texas, we’ll have some more movies to add to the lineup.
