You read that headline right: The one and only Billy Porter is joining us as the Honorary Grand Marshal for this year’s Dallas Pride Parade. Talk about star power!
Billy Porter is a powerhouse in both the entertainment world and as a champion for LGBTQ+ rights. With a career decorated with an EMMY, GRAMMY and two Tony Awards—his first for his unforgettable performance as Lola in “Kinky Boots”—Billy is a true icon. This year, he’s set to receive the prestigious Isabelle Stevenson Tony Award for his advocacy and commitment to the community. That’s our kind of hero!
Sherrell Cross, executive director of Dallas Pride, expressed her enthusiasm: “We are thrilled to welcome Billy Porter to Dallas Pride. He symbolized the spirit of unity, pride and resilience within the LGBTQ+ community, and will undoubtedly electrify audiences with his spirit and sparkle.”
The festivities start with the Dallas Pride Music Festival on June 1. It’s an all-day event packed with performances from favorites like CeCe Peniston and Ha Sizzle, plus special appearances by RuPaul’s Drag Race stars, Morphine Love Dion and Aquaria.
The main event, the Dallas Pride Parade, takes to Fair Park on June 2. It’s free and fabulously open to all, showcasing a spectacular parade with vibrant floats, bands and a parade of participants celebrating diversity and acceptance. The parade promises a visual feast and a heartfelt celebration of the LGBTQ+ community.
