I’m a little riled up this week.
Retire. The proverbial wheel of fortune has spun another chapter. Brother Pat Sajak has made his living for some 40 years as host of that fortune eponymous game show. The man made millions from wearing layers of pancake make-up, biting his tongue to keep from laughing at ignorant contestants and playing with a big wheel. As a Babatist, it does my heart good to know that he was so conservative in his values and his support for all things that trump immorality. He set an example of gentlemanly conduct by never touching or turning any of Vanna White’s “letters.” And he was one of the few Merv Griffin hires who was a true heterosexual. As he now retires, he shall be missed as a suppertime presence in American homes. Fortunately, he is being replaced with Brother Ryan Seacrest, a man who appears to be MUCH more Merv’s type.
Revere. I have been known to slander many famous people for their behavior or their comments. It is my duty as a Babatist to prove how I am better than these people. However, even I have boundaries. Whether or not I agree with the opinions and beliefs of some of these celebrities really hinges on the over-arching body of work of that particular star. Sister Jane Fonda is a liberal activist, but I refrain from criticism due to her body of work and talent. NOW, I find myself standing up to defend one of the seemingly nicest and most revered people in this world. Sister Dolly Parton is being slandered for her support of the sodomite community. Let us step back here and look at her enormous titivations which have made her who she is. From the hair to the mode of dress to the country music, Dolly has become larger than life with a kindness that exudes from every part of her titivating. I say that the focus needs to remain on others who truly deserve cancellation. Perhaps people who revel in grabbing women’s cats and spinning tales of fiction at every turn.
Rebuke. Satan has invaded another megachurch in our midst……actually, in MY midst here in the Dallas area. Gateway Church, a large non-denominational cult, uh culture, of godliness has been rocked by news of their sinful Pastor’s past sins. Brother Robert Morris, founding pastor of Gateway, allegedly had sex with an underage girl back in the 1980s, an allegation he has partly admitted to. This is unacceptable, brothers and sisters, and he must be rebuked. I would normally try to find some sort of forgiveness here for such a man of God, but in addition to the egregious alleged activity, I’ve also found a letter from several church pastors to the former editor of CHRISTIANITY TODAY complaining that the magazine took a moral stance against our former President DJT. The letter proclaims that the “editorial offensively questioned the spiritual integrity and Christian witness of tens of millions of believers who take seriously their civic and moral obligations.” Signed by, among others, Robert Morris of Gateway Church. Hypocrisy doesn’t age well.
