I am ORDERING you to pray about these things!
Decree. In biblical times, when God Almighty spoke, the words were taken as law, even when the words came from a burning bush! When Jesus spoke, the words were recorded as truth in the Scriptures. Amen? So I, as a Babatist, am not unfamiliar with decrees. However, I understand them to be from a source of almighty power, not someone THINKING they have almighty power. Our current President (it’s so hard for me to capitalize that with any respect!) believes that whatever he decrees by executive order shall be done post-haste. Jesus and his Dad did not need checks and balances because they WERE the check and the balance. These are different times, I daresay. I’m all for making sensible changes to the government, but that “S” word seems to be missing these days. I may have to go to Costco and buy some spines in bulk to hand out to Congress. Do your job!
Downward. It has always been a blessing that my church has an endowment fund that continues our ministry in perpetuity. (That means forever, for you illiterates.) These funds will allegedly continue to grow and maintain our buildings through investments. I say allegedly because the investment market is in a downward spiral due to “Executive Orders” causing havoc in the financial world. The worst of these “decisions” is the game of chicken our government is playing with our North American neighbors involving tariffs. I am fervently praying that the Lord convict our President about these dangerous practices. Otherwise, our steeple is gonna fall over from disrepair!
Dallas. Back to the home of my ministry, Dallas. We are still trying to recover from the news that a downtown retail institution is being closed at the end of this month. (Of course, we’ll always be stained with that unfortunate parade incident in 1963, but let’s stay current.) Dallas is home to two significant airlines: American and Southwest. I find this very convenient in that I can travel to any mission destination with relative ease from Dallas. While American moved its headquarters here many years ago, Southwest was actually founded here in 1971 and is a great source of pride for this city. In keeping with their unofficial theme of “Luv,” Southwest has “loved” its passengers in so many ways. Not the least of which was no baggage charges. Ever. Yet, they have always been profitable. Now, some investment lackey has gained control of the board and is making changes to make Southwest even MORE profitable by taking away this free baggage perk and making me fork over more tithe money just to check my luggage. I’d like to prayerfully offer the scripture in 1 Timothy 6:10, which reminds us that “For the love of money is the root of all evil.” I’m praying for this new management team. You’re just another thing that is making Dallas highly irritable and I don’t luv it!
