2024 ushered in a new era for Dallas restaurants.
That’s because it was the first year in history that Dallas became part of the coveted Michelin Guide.
Tatsu Dallas received one Michelin star, a handful received the Bib Gourmand designation and several attracted the equally coveted Michelin recommendation.
Mercat Bistro, the beloved Harwood District French cafe, falls into that latter category. Two weeks ago, we had the delicious privilege to experience the five-course Michelin Tasting Menu (really six if you include the amuse bouche).
You won’t find anything wild and crazy on the tasting, either. Instead, expect simply perfect execution of French classics.
At $95, it’s approachable compared to a lot of chef’s tasting menus. Plus, it’s the chance to dine at a Michelin Recommended restaurant without needing a payday loan.

It would be practically impossible to pick a favorite, but gun to our head, the onion soup gratinée might win. Made with seven different types of onions and crowned with gooey Gruyère, it’s exceptional—and also the ideal portion for onion soup.
If someone happens to be pointing two guns at us, the other standout would be the duck confit with blueberry jus, spring peas, baby carrots and marble potatoes.
If you’re dining on Friday (or any weeknight) make your dinner reservation early so you can start off with a couple of $6 happy hour martinis and $2 oysters, available until 5:00 p.m.
No matter when you choose to do dinner at Mercat Bistro, however, plan to be transported to a little corner of France that you’ll never want to leave.
