Where To Eat This Weekend: Rye On Lowest Greenville Avenue

Last week, we revealed a huge secret in order to be free from shame once and for all.

But as much as we love dining experiences of all types, cheap or expensive, simple or elaborate, we will always be fans of a chef’s tasting menu.

We can honestly say, of all the tasting menus we’ve had this year—or ever, really—this particular 11-course seasonal summer menu at Rye on Lowest Greenville Avenue takes the prize for Most Creative Ever.

Tap into your childhood nostalgia of a long summer day that started with morning cartoons, ventured into hours of fun in the sun, and culminated with a bedtime snack.

Creative Director and CEO Tanner Agar, Executive Chef Taylor Rause and the entire team collaborated and have infused each course with a healthy dose of whimsy and a bounty of adult ingredients.

That translates to wildly inventive versions of Chicken McNuggets (Rye’s features quail), boozy Capri Suns, old fashioneds that taste like banana bread and “ants on a log” made with (shit you not), real ants.

Go to the pool with a gorgeous escolar dish with blue “water.” Experience a sunburn via crab toast with soothing aloe butter. And chase down the ice cream truck for a cone accessorized with caviar and foie gras.

You can opt for an 11-course vegetarian tasting, too, that’s equally ingenious.

The whole experience evokes childlike wonder and rewards it with culinary genius, one bite at a time.

It’s good to be a kid again.
