Abraham Salum is super hot.
And not just because he’s been in a kitchen for the past two decades.
That’s right, for those of us who attended the grand opening of his beloved Salum Restaurant in 2005, it’s hard to believe that 175,200 hours have flown by in what feels like an instant.
Yet it’s true.
This September the fabulously fabulous chef celebrates the fine-dining destination’s 20th anniversary. Throughout the month, Salum will be offering several of his iconic dishes on a carefully curated anniversary menu featuring the greatest hits of his extended stay on Cole Avenue.
We went in last Friday night for a revisit and had a grand old time, not that we expected anything less. The dining room bustled with several LGBTQ+ employees, the camaraderie and mutual respect between them and Chef Salum couldn’t be faked.
During our early evening dinner, we ordered a mix of seasonal dishes and cherished classics, including the frito misto, pan-seared rainbow trout, Australian rack of lamb and a side of charred corn risotto.

We had a fantastic time with our handsome server (cheers, Jackson!) who suggested smart wine pairings throughout the evening and tempted us with a duo of sinful desserts. We later decided to have a third, which we enjoyed the next day at home.
It was especially fun to watch Chef Salum work the dining room, stopping at every table to check on things, clearly recognizing more than half the guests who were obvious regulars.
We hope to make it back in September to see what tricks Salum has up his sleeve (and everyone knows we love a good trick!)
We’re sure the anniversary menu will provide one of the most memorable meals you’ll have all year, so even if you’re one of Salum’s numerous regulars, you’ll want to take part in this milestone month of superb cuisine.
Additionally, celebrating a small, local, LGBTQ-owned business is the most important thing we can do right now.
Well, second-most important. The most important task at hand is making a reservation before they book up.
