Saturday night, we had a flashback to one of the earliest memories of our first year covering the Dallas LGBTQ scene right out of college.
It was the late ā90s (yikes) and Pegasus Theatre invited us to one of their early Living Black & White productions to review for This Week in Texas (who remembers that?!)
We remember being blown away by the set, costume and makeup design implemented to create the illusion of watching a film noir, but in the middle of a live performance venue. (See the photo above from a past production.)
When we saw MacMurder this past weekend, we couldnāt believe how much better Pegasus Theatreās trademarked technique had raised the bar even further.
The whodunit comedy brings the laughs, plenty of plot twists and some delightfully groan-worthy gags. Though there aren’t any LGBTQ characters, we have queer representation among the cast and crew. (Including one particularly handsome fella who brings sex appeal even fully clothed with a gray face. But we may be biased. )
Six performances remain, beginning tonight, so grab your tickets and show up early. The seats are general admission, so you’ll want to arrive a bit before curtain to snag the best seats. We recommend sitting somewhere in the middle of the orchestra level seating to get the full scope of the black-and-white stage, but also be close enough to hear the actors best.
The show features a tight 45-minute first act, a 20-minute intermission and another 45-minute second act, so it’s not a huge time commitment, either.
Rush to attpac.org for tickets to one of these final six shows and support local theater at its most creative.
