Peace. Pearly. Program.

I have been melancholy of late.  Let these thoughts lift us all.

Peace.  Our President has finally achieved a positive goal by brokering a peace deal between Israel and Palestine.  I give thanks for the release of political prisoners and pray that the pause in these tensions will last.  Good for him.  As a Christian, I anxiously await the return of our Lord and fall back on scripture telling me that His return will bring peace to Israel.  I just pray that my fellow believers remain steadfast in spreading God’s love to ALL, both in Israel and elsewhere.  Otherwise, I believe that the Lord will keep delaying just to teach us all a lesson.  In the meantime, I pray that a certain American leader will get back to work on the mess here at home.  One good deed does not negate a lifetime of questionable antics.

Pearly.  The world is in collective mourning over the passing of a movie star.  And this time, I’m joining in the bereavement.  Sister Diane Keaton has gone on to glory, leaving us here with one less celebrity actually deserving of our respect.  While I questioned her early career choices (Looking for a Baby Ruth… or something like that), her overall body of work is to be commended.  She made us laugh without being crude.  She made us weep in her sincere portrayals.  Scandal never touched her gates.  Even the most wicked of celebrities respected her.  I am concerned that she never married and dressed like a man, but I was able to let that go with prayer and thanksgiving for her life.  I daresay that St. Peter himself will welcome her into the Pearly Gates with joy for her work.  Godspeed, Annie Hall.

Program.  I have long been aware that the success of anything on the television is strongly dependent on how many people that the particular program reaches.  I’ve never had anyone named Nielsen knock on my door while I’m looking at TV, but apparently some do.  Some TV personalities can take these poor ratings personally and see it as an affront to their talent.  One such program and its star are currently experiencing this phenomenon.  Although I haven’t seen this program yet, apparently Sister Kristi Noem has put out a television brief that is airing only in America’s airports.  I find that to be a rather limited market for Brother Nielsen to care about, but what do I know? Regardless, certain airports are refusing to air her program.  As far as I know, there is nothing pornographic or too adult in this show, so I guess Sister Kristi has a valid argument.  With such a limited audience already, fewer viewers in selected airports will surely hasten the show’s cancellation.  Perhaps Sister Noem should leave her performing to the six o’clock news.  Along with all the other drivel therein, her displays of talent will blend right in.
