Scream, Queens!

Right on cue for Halloween (and tomorrow night’s big Halloween Block Party, one movie dares to bring a little glam to the zombie genre.

Queens of the Dead opens today and before you even settle into your seat with your bucket of popcorn, the movie already has a lot going for it.

The horror comedy comes from queer director Tina Romero, daughter of George A. Romero (Night of the Living Dead), so she’s been living in the zombie universe her entire life.

With hilarious performances from Nina West and Margaret Cho, and the always dreamy Cheyenne Jackson lighting up the screen, the film delivers over-the-top gore and humor, but also subtle social commentary.

It’s not a perfect movie (slow and filled with too many queer clichés at times), but it has some really funny moments and a couple of legitimate jump scares.

See it in a theater with a group of fellow LGBTQ+ horror enthusiasts for an assuredly elevated experience.

Get tickets while it’s screening all over Dallas-Fort Worth.

Then watch in awe as queer people slay in a whole new way.
