Alligators in the sewers: Urban legend.
Lobster ravioli fra diavolo: Urbano legend.
If you’ve never been to Urbano Café on Fitzhugh Avenue in Old East Dallas, reserve a table for that shellfish pasta dish alone. But stick around for one Italian hit after another.
We’ve been fans of Urbano since its first incarnation, Urbano Paninoteca, opened in Uptown back in 2002.
We frequented the restaurant because it was walkable from our State-Thomas offices, so we knew that concept’s menu well.

In 2007, when it shifted gears toward a more fine dining experience at a new location on the same block as Jimmy’s Food Store, it fell off or radar.
In the past few years, it’s become the go-to restaurant for some of our best friends, so lately we’ve been visiting more often, too.
In fact, we even celebrated our anniversary at Urbano Café with our husband because the cozy setting automatically transforms any dinner into into a romantic date night. Yet it’s equally comfortable for a group of platonic friends.
We tried a lot of dishes. In fact, every photo in this story represents something we loved.
The incredible wine program (ask for Kevin to help you pick the best), makes it a top spot for a light meal and a glass of wine or a huge spread of food and several bottles.
That lobster ravioli, though. It’s not only the stuff of legend, it’s the pasta of our dreams.
