SPCA Pet of the Week: Roo Is All Ears, All Heart & Ready for Home

Meet Roo, a one-year-old, 59-pound bundle of joy with big pointed ears, a laughing smile and the kind of optimism that makes you believe good things are coming. He is still very much a baby at heart, full of curiosity, movement and hope that today might finally be the day his forever family walks through the door.

Roo loves being on the go. Walks, playtime, new places to explore, if it feels like an adventure, he is in. His ears stay alert, his tail never stops wagging and his whole body tells you how thrilled he is to be included. Fetch in the yard, a new trail to sniff or just tagging along with you, Roo is happiest when life is moving.

Because he is still young, Roo is learning as he goes. He would thrive with someone willing to guide him with patience and encouragement. He wants to do well, wants to please and wants to grow into the best version of himself with the right support.

Roo recently went out on a Borrow a Buddy adventure and showed everyone exactly how special he is. At a dog-friendly burger and beer garden, he calmly settled under the table and politely enjoyed a treat. When another dog barked at him on the way out, Roo stayed composed and kept walking, showing off his gentle nature.

His day continued at White Rock Lake, where Roo impressed his buddies on a two-mile walk. He stayed right by their side, only tugging once when a squirrel made a very compelling appearance. He paused patiently as bicycles passed, taking in new sights and smells with calm curiosity.

Roo is happy, loving and ready now. Dogs like him are meant for couches, backyards and hearts, not waiting in a kennel. If you are looking for a fun, loyal companion and can offer guidance and love, Roo is ready to give you his whole world.

Roo is one of the SPCA of Texas Longtime Lovables, which means he has been in the shelter more than 60 days and his adoption fee is free. He is neutered, microchipped and current on vaccinations. You can meet him any day from noon to 6 p.m. at the SPCA of Texas Dallas Animal Care Center, 2400 Lone Star Drive, 75212. Walk-ins are always welcome.
