We know it’s only Tuesday, but sometimes we start dreaming of the weekend early.
Several times each month we showcase the best places to eat, whether they’re brand-new or longtime favorites.
We keep a running list, but sometimes we wake up in the middle of the night realizing we missed an obvious recommendation. That’s the case this week with The Mayor’s House by Selda.
We’ve been dining frequently since the Mediterranean restaurant debuted in late 2023. It’s become our go-to spot before a show at the Texas Theatre or the Kessler. And with the spacious patio and intimate nooks throughout the two-story former mayor’s mansion, it’s an ideal place to take friends.

It wasn’t until the very moment we started writing this story that we realized it’s an outpost of a six-restaurant Texas mini-chain of Mediterranean restaurants (with a dedicated bakery coming soon to Richardson).
So, in theory, anywhere you live in the DFW metroplex (or when in San Antonio!), you’ll be close to the same delightful fare. We will always be partial to the Mayor’s House because of the unique setting, but it’s nice to know if you get a craving for falafel in Irving for instance, you have a spot to go.
Meanwhile, back at the Mayor’s House in Oak Cliff…
Must-order appetizers include hummus (some of the best in town), grilled halloumi cheese and a double order of fried cauliflower (trust us!).
Our go-to entree is the Beyti Special, which consists of chargrilled ground lamb rolled in flatbread and lightly coated in tomato sauce. It comes with Turkish rice and a hearty bean salad.
We also adore the pizza-like pides, including the Elizabeth Pide with salmon, spinach and cheese.

We’ve never gone to the Mayor’s House with fewer than four people, so we always share family-style and we always try at least one new dish to potentially find a new favorite.
If you’re into hookahs, they’ve got those, too.
And desserts shine, which is probably why the Selda brand is branching out with a full-on bakery.
Now that Cupid has gone back into hibernation, getting reservations this weekend should be a breeze. And speaking of breezes, with Sunday’s sunny and mild forecast, we suggest afeast on the patio with your BFFs.
They’ll thank you forever.
