If you’ve spent any time navigating healthcare in Dallas, you already know the gaps…particularly for us queer folks. This week, Resource Center Health officially stepped in to help close them with its grand opening and ribbon cutting, drawing community leaders, supporters and plenty of familiar faces from around Oak Lawn.
The vibe felt equal parts celebration and relief. Like, finally.
The biggest draw here is how much is under one roof. Resource Center Health brings together services that are often scattered across the city:
- Primary care for patients 15+
- HIV services and PrEP programs
- Mental health support
- STI testing and prevention
- HRT and gender-affirming care
- Nutrition services, plus a food pantry
- Pharmacy, telehealth, and insurance assistance
Translation: fewer referrals, less running around, and a much smoother experience overall.
The building itself tells a story. Art installations, including pieces curated by Anderson+Kincaid, highlight LGBTQIA+ history and culture. There’s even a dedicated History Wall honoring the people and moments that shaped the community in North Texas. It adds a layer of intention that you don’t always see in medical spaces.
During the program, speakers focused on access, continuity of care and meeting people where they are. It felt grounded, not performative.
Why This Matters Right Now
For many in the LGBTQIA+ community, healthcare still comes with hesitation. Resource Center Health is designed to remove that friction and replace it with something far more welcoming and efficient.
It’s a meaningful addition to Dallas, especially in a neighborhood that has long been a hub for our community. If you’ve been putting off a checkup, switching providers or just want a place that feels easier to walk into, this might be your sign.
