Travel Tuesday: Like A Virgin (Island)

The beach is calling!

And this one’s bathed not only in sunshine, but every color of the rainbow.

If you ask us, the only thing better than a Pride-based vacation is a Pride-based vacation with an ocean view from the parade route.

That’s exactly what you’ll find at one of the newest Pride celebrations in the World when the U.S. Virgin Islands destination of St. Croix holds the 7th Annual St. Croix Pride Parade on June 6.

Festivities begin as early as May 28 and go through June 20, so you have a little wiggle room on your travel plans in order to experience Pride in paradise.

Festivities include a First Pride Rave Party, a Flower Power Brunch, a Beach Party and Drag Show, as well as the parade itself through town.

If you’ve never been to a smaller, more intimate Pride celebration, they’re pretty incredible. The sense of community feels even stronger and it’s always good to get a different perspective on what Pride means in other parts of the world, even if it’s a U.S. territory.

Best of all, the United States Virgin Islands website proudly displays the event, something we’ve seen disappearing from mainland cities’ websites.

While you’re in St. Croix, unpack your bags at Sand Castle on the Beach, a gay-owned adults-only boutique hotel with suites and villas, a clothing-optional pool, daily breakfast and, of course, gorgeous ocean views.

Even if you can’t make it for Pride, visit St. Croix any time of year for a relaxing getaway that you’ll never want to end.

You won’t need a passport and need to pack little more than a swimsuit a day, so you can save those checked bag fees for a round of piña coladas under an umbrella.

Or naked in the pool.
