SPCA Pet of the Week: Joel Is 33 Pounds Of Pure Good Mood

Some dogs have a talent for making people laugh. Joel has turned it into an art form.

This two-year-old mixed breed is 33 pounds of charm, curiosity and nonstop tail wags. With his black-and-white coat, pointy ears and one perfectly placed black patch over his eye, Joel looks like he showed up wearing his own signature look. Add in his tongue-out grin, and it’s almost impossible not to smile right back.

Joel approaches life with the enthusiasm of someone who’s convinced every day has the potential to be the best one yet. A neighborhood walk? Amazing. A new toy? Even better. An interesting smell that absolutely must be investigated? He’s already on the case.

His tail deserves its own fan club. It seems to have only two settings: wagging and somehow wagging even faster. Spend a few minutes with Joel, and you’ll understand why. His joy is genuine, and it’s remarkably contagious.

For all his playful energy, Joel has a wonderfully sweet side. He loves being with his people, whether that’s heading out for a walk, exploring a new park, or simply hanging out while you tackle your weekend to-do list. He’s just happy to be included.

Joel strikes that balance so many people are looking for. He’s adventurous without being overwhelming, playful without being nonstop, and affectionate without demanding all the attention. He’s the kind of dog who slips easily into your routine, then somehow makes every day a little brighter.

You can meet Joel any day from noon to 6 p.m. at the SPCA of Texas Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center, 2400 Lone Star Drive, Dallas, 75212. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on his vaccinations.

If your home could use a little more laughter, a lot more tail wags and one very handsome sidekick, Joel is ready to make your acquaintance.
