From TV to the big screen, more and more stories have emerged about the LGBTQ+ experience, and the world is better for it.
One of the early pioneers of modern queer cinema, Gregg Araki, got his start back in the late 1980s. But he really hit his stride for us when he released Mysterious Skin in 2005.
Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Brady Corbet, Elisabeth Shue, Michelle Trachtenberg and Mary Lynn Rajskub, the film follows two young men who each experienced a pivotal event in childhood. Now 18, they’ve gone in very different directions: one has become a male prostitute, the other a recluse.

Either way, you’ll want to catch the new 4K restoration next week. The film screens at The Texas Theatre at 9:00 p.m. on both Tuesday, September 29 and Wednesday, September 30.
It’s an excellent way to appreciate the groundbreaking work of Araki for the first time—or all over again.
