Retro Music From The Future

Two men standing side by side against a gray background. One man wears a black cap and sunglasses with a dark jacket, while the other is dressed in a black suit with a high collar.

Some recording artists try to reinvent themselves—and their sound—constantly.

And we applaud them.

Other singers release album after album over the decades, and you could drop the needle on any single track, and we’d know exactly who you’re playing.

The Pet Shop Boys are one such group.

And we applaud them for that, too.

We love the comfort of getting an album and knowing that even though the songs are new, the immediately recognizable Pet Shop Boys sound takes us right back to the dance floor of our first gay club.

Today, the Pet Shop Boys release A Man from the Future, a new album that features their signature sound, but so much more.

They’ve collaborated with Andrew Hodges, Alan Turing’s biographer. Who’s Alan Turing, you ask? We didn’t know either.

Album cover featuring a stylized image of a man in a suit with a green background and orange tint, titled 'A man from the future' by Tennant/Lowe/Hodges, featuring contributions from Pet Shop Boys, Juliet Stevenson, and Manchester Camerata Octet.

But this album couldn’t be a more timely examination of a person’s life. Turing, you see, was a British mathematician and scientist credited as the father of artificial intelligence.

This new album features songs with vocals, purely orchestral music, as well as spoken word.

And, as the Pet Shop Boys have sung before, it’s Absolutely Fabulous.

Get it on vinyl, Blu-ray, or compact disc (what, no cassette?), or stream it from your favorite online service.

Because you’ll want to give this Pet Shop acquisition a forever home.
